Today was Bainbridge Island’s annual Chilly Hilly bike ride — dubbed the unofficial start of the biking season. There were thousands of participants. These are bikers boarding the 7:55 a.m. ferry to Bainbridge:
There was a lot of energy from everyone, including this guy who was riding in the Chilly Hilly for his first time:
SPD has more info on their blotter about Thursday’s stabbing near Rainier Ave and MLK here. Basically, when I arrived on the scene, the stabbing victim was just being taken away and medics were attending to another male.
A couple minutes later, police cars swarmed an area one block to the south. The picture above is of the suspect being arrested, with a bag over his head because (apparently he was spitting on officers).
Over the weekend I covered high school state swimming championships down in Federal Way. It was a fun, all-day shoot. Here are a few images.

Yesterday, I went up to Vancouver on a whim with my buddy Zach to catch a little taste of the Olympics. We slept in my car to save some cash (but it’s not like there are any available rooms anyway…). I was a little nervous about bringing all my gear up — I accidentally ended up parking behind a strip club for 12 hours — but everything made it back in one piece. Before I left, I had breakfast with my friend John Lok, a staffer at The Seattle Times who is super busy shooting the games.
Here are a few pictures. These guys were using their Canadian flag as an umbrella while waiting in line for a club:
I also stopped by the Olympic Superstore at Hudson’s Bay Co. There were a lot of Olympic pins being traded:
There were weird shapes out on the street you could fit into:
There were good hot dogs:
And, pretty sights:
